Greek authorities detained 124 migrants on the eastern island of Karpathos after spotting speedboats without identification markers. 58 migrants were discovered near the main port, while another 66 were found in a more remote area. A 24-year-old migrant was arrested for alleged possession of forged identification documents. Greece attributes the increase in illegal immigration to ongoing wars in the Middle East and reported a near-50% rise in illegal arrivals last year, with Syrians comprising the largest group.
