Oldest dinosaur in America? 230-million-year-old previously unknown spec

Paleontologists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison have discovered the oldest known dinosaur from Laurasia, challenging previous theories about dinosaur migration. The fossils of Ahvaytum bahndooiveche, estimated to be around 230 million years old, were found in present-day Wyoming, indicating that dinosaurs were present in the northern hemisphere at the same time as their southern counterparts. The discovery suggests that dinosaurs may have appeared in the northern hemisphere much earlier than previously thought. Ahvaytum bahndooiveche is the first dinosaur species to be named in the language of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe.
