Former US State Department adviser Hazem Alghabra suggests that Israel should extend a message of peace to Syria rather than alienating them, in order to distance the country's population from Islamist agendas and extremist ideologies. Alghabra argues that Israel, as a regional superpower, should start behaving like one and see Syria as a potential customer for economic collaborations. He also emphasizes that extending a message of peace does not mean granting legitimization to the new Syrian leadership. Other speakers at the roundtable discussion hosted by The Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA) also highlight Israel's strong position and the need for clear messaging and actions from Israel in order to shape the region.
