Israel is rallying global support to win the release of an Israeli-Russian researcher who is believed to have been kidnapped in Iraq nearly two years ago. The Israeli government is working with allies to push for negotiations with the Iraqi government and hopes that other countries will assist in securing the freedom of Elizabeth Tsurkov. Tsurkov, a student at Princeton University, disappeared in Baghdad in March 2023 and is believed to be held by the Iranian-backed Iraqi militia Kataib Hezbollah. Israel sees the current changes in the region as an opportunity to work publicly for her release.
