President Joe Biden's outgoing ICE director, Patrick Lechleitner, expressed his wish that Biden had implemented his executive order to shut down the border earlier to help control the influx of migrants. Lechleitner appeared on Fox & Friends and stated that the order, which temporarily suspended entry of non-citizens once border encounters exceeded 2,500 a day, had helped the agency's mission. However, he did not know why the action was not taken earlier. Lechleitner's remarks come after a Wall Street Journal investigation revealed that agency heads often did not get to meet with the president or speak with him one-on-one.
