An oil tanker that was attacked by Yemen's Houthi rebels and posed a threat of a massive oil spill in the Red Sea has been salvaged, according to a security firm. The tanker, named Sounion, had been carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil when it was struck and sabotaged by the rebels. It took months to extinguish the fires and remove the remaining crude oil. The U.S. State Department had warned that a spill from the tanker would have been four times the size of the Exxon Valdez disaster. The Houthis have targeted numerous merchant vessels with missiles and drones since the start of the war in Gaza.
