"All Jews are responsible for one another," said Baruch, adding that since October 7 it was important to remember that "We are one people, one faith." Indonesian Rabbi Yaakov Baruch succeeded in realizing his dream of having his son celebrate his Bar Mitzvah at the Kotel in Jerusalem. Baruch shared the challenges of coming to Israel and obtaining religious items for his community, and the role of the wider Jewish people in helping his family and congregation. The Tondano congregation in Indonesia has received support from Jewish communities around the world, and Baruch has worked tirelessly to establish and educate the Jewish community in the Muslim-majority country. He hopes for normalization and better diplomatic relations between Israel and Indonesia.
