What is the story behind the harmonica player Max Geldray?

Max Geldray was a pioneering jazz harmonica player who featured on The Goon Show. Born in Amsterdam to a Jewish family, Geldray fled to Britain during the Nazi invasion in 1940. He joined the Dutch army in exile and entertained Princess Elizabeth on her 16th birthday. Geldray later joined The Goon Show and became known for his harmonica performances. He emigrated to the United States in 1961 and continued to play until his death in 2004.
