The vast archive of composer Arnold Schoenberg, including sheet music, photographs, letters, and posters, has been destroyed in the recent Los Angeles fires. The collection was described as essential for musicians who rely on the meticulously curated editions of Schoenberg's works. Schoenberg, a Jewish composer, found success in Berlin before fleeing to the US to avoid persecution from the Nazis. Most of his original manuscripts are held at a museum in Vienna. Efforts are being made to create digital copies of the scores.
