The former home of Auschwitz's wartime commandant, Rudolf Höss, is being opened to the public as part of commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Army's liberation of Auschwitz. The house, located just outside the camp's perimeter fence, has been purchased by the Counter Extremism Project, a New York-based group. The plan is to turn the house into the Auschwitz Research Center on Hate, Extremism and Radicalization, which will focus on combating extremism in the present and future. The house will be redesigned by American architect Daniel Libeskind.
