China has unveiled plans to construct a massive space-based solar power station that aims to revolutionize global energy supply. The proposed station would cover an area of about one square kilometer and continuously beam energy to Earth via microwaves. It is estimated that the energy collected in one year could be equivalent to all the oil that can be extracted from Earth. China plans to utilize the reusable Long March-9 rocket to launch the components of the station into orbit. The country aims to deploy the first functional prototype of the space solar power station by 2030.
