Battles are raging in northeastern Syria between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA). The SDF has hit a Turkish military base and taken back a village from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al Qaeda affiliate. The SDF is preparing a large force to liberate areas from HTS and the Turkish military. The Kurdish land grab is why Syrian tribes are attacking the SDF. Over 440 people have been killed in the fighting. The US's position on the conflict is unclear since President Donald Trump took office.
