Rescue workers in Gaza, including the Civil Defence and ambulance service, have faced the harrowing task of pulling the living and the dead from the rubble during the Israeli bombardment. As a result, 99 rescue workers have been killed and 319 wounded, some with life-changing injuries. When burying their own, the Civil Defence lays the vests of the dead on their bodies as a symbol of sacrifice and hope that it will show God the good they did in saving others.
