Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati says the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah will be extended until 18 February following contact from the US. The initial ceasefire plan, brokered by the US and France, aimed to end 14 months of conflict and required Hezbollah to end its armed presence in southern Lebanon and Israeli forces to withdraw. However, Israel stated that some soldiers would remain in the region as the ceasefire agreement was not fully enforced by Lebanon. The deadline has now been moved to 18 February, and negotiations will begin for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after 7 October 2023.
