Iraqi militias have expressed support for a three-way hostage exchange deal involving Israel and Hezbollah, according to sources. The deal would swap Israeli-Russian Elizabeth Tsurkov for Hezbollah fighters arrested by the IDF. However, Israeli intransigence has left the deal in limbo. Hezbollah is reportedly eager for the swap as it seeks a victory following its loss to Israel in 2024. The Iraqi government is also keen on the exchange to disentangle itself from regional conflicts. Tsurkov was kidnapped in March 2023, with Kataib Hezbollah being blamed for the abduction.
