Syrian Kurdish leader Ilham Ahmed believes that Israel must play a role in ensuring regional security in the Middle East amid rising tensions between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Islamist rulers in Damascus. The SDF, which is the main ally of the US and the global coalition in the fight against ISIS, controls around 30% of Syrian territory, including strategic areas such as oil and gas fields. Ahmed expressed concerns about the intentions of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) organization, which now rules in Damascus and rejects the possibility of a federal system for Syria. She also emphasized the importance of Israel's involvement in finding a democratic solution for the region's security.
