Grapevine: Bar mitzvahs in Israel

Two brothers celebrated their bar mitzvahs at Hazvi Yisrael in Jerusalem, with the entire Berkovich family leading the service. The boys displayed a strong command of Hebrew and their parents were commended for their outstanding Jewish education. The annual Jerusalem Conference, hosted by the BeSheva Group of Communications, will be held on February 24 and 25. The conference will cover topics such as haredim serving in the IDF, leadership during times of crisis, and settlement and sovereignty in the new Trump era. The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities will honor Prof. Yigal Talmi on his 100th birthday with an international seminar on nuclear capability. The seminar will include speakers from abroad and Talmi himself. To dispel ignorance and misunderstandings about the haredi communities, several ministries and organizations have organized tours through predominantly haredi areas of Jerusalem. The tours aim to showcase the haredi community and promote understanding. This year marks several important anniversaries in Jerusalem, including the 100th birthday of Yigal Talmi, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the 90th anniversary of Leyada school, and the 60th anniversary of the Israel Museum. The Tower of David Museum and the Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research are organizing tours of haredi areas of Jerusalem to promote understanding and dispel misconceptions. Attorney Moshe Jaffe spoke at the Great Synagogue on whether the High Court of Justice should interfere in military matters. Jaffe explained the complexities involved in the court taking action and compared it to the US courts' approach to army matters.
