After close to eight decades, the remains of US Army Private First Class Robert L. Bryant, who went missing during World War II, have been identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). Bryant was assigned to Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion, and was engaged in combat near the Chiunzi Pass on the Sorrento Peninsula during Operation AVALANCHE in Italy. His body was never recovered, and he was declared non-recoverable in 1949. In 2019, evidence linking Bryant to unidentified remains found in Italy was discovered by a DPAA historian. Bryant's surviving family members have been notified of his identification, and his remains will be buried with full military honors in April 2025.
