Scientists have discovered a new species of fungus that manipulates spiders, causing them to leave their lairs and die in exposed locations. The fungus, named Gibellula attenboroughii after Sir David Attenborough, infects cave spiders and releases spores after killing them. The discovery was made during the filming of a BBC documentary in Northern Ireland. Researchers believe the fungus uses chemical signals to lure spiders out of their nests and guide them outdoors.
