The Aga Khan, leader of the Ismaili Muslims and head of a major development aid network, has died at the age of 88 in Lisbon. The Aga Khan Development Network, which he founded and presided over, employs 96,000 people and finances development programs in Asia and Africa. The Ismaili community, which the Aga Khan led, numbers 12 to 15 million people. The Aga Khan was described as a symbol of peace, tolerance, and compassion by United Nations chief Antonio Guterres.
