The first arrest of an ultra-Orthodox deserter has occurred since the exemption status of Haredim was revoked in July 2024, and 3000 draft orders were sent out. A haredi man was arrested at Ben Gurion airport while trying to flee the country. Activists from haredi protest organizations plan to demonstrate against the arrest. The government intends to gradually increase the drafting of haredim until reaching a number equivalent to 50% of the 18-year-old haredi cohort within seven years.
