Dubbed 'AI slop', these poor-quality pictures and videos are often shared widely and taken as real by older users. The over-60s, in particular, are to blame for the viral spread of this content as they continue to engage with it. Social media algorithms also play a role in boosting AI-generated posts. While technologically-literate millennials may scoff at the confusion, the convincing nature of the content and its rapid improvement make it difficult to distinguish from real images.
