Today marks three years since Russia started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with 20% of Ukraine's land still occupied by Russian forces. The exclusion of Ukraine from recent talks between American and Russian leaders has raised concerns about the potential division of Ukraine's land and loss of independence. The concept of countries changing their borders is not new, as leaders like Donald Trump have expressed interest in taking control of other places. The idea of nation-states with clear borders is a relatively recent development, originating after World War II with the Peace of Westphalia agreement. However, this system had flaws, leading to land grabs and conflicts in non-European countries.
