New observations of the asteroid 2024 YR4 have led astronomers to conclude that the chances of it striking Earth in 2032 are almost zero, with the impact probability being lowered to 0.001%. The asteroid, which is about 130-300 feet wide, had previously been calculated to have a 3% chance of impact, the highest ever recorded for such an object. The new data, obtained by the European Southern Observatory and other facilities, gave a more precise picture of the asteroid's trajectory. The potential threat of the asteroid is significant, as an impact could cause regional devastation and loss of life.
