Justice Minister begins process to oust Attorney General

Israel's Minister of Justice Yariv Levin has initiated the process to remove Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, accusing her of acting as the 'long-arm of the government's opponents.' Levin is requesting a vote of no confidence in the Attorney General due to substantial differences of opinion and a lack of effective cooperation. He claims that she has created a 'democracy of extortion' and has used her power in a discriminatory and political manner. Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid criticizes Levin's move as damaging to the country and the rule of law.
