Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has stated that the US does not believe Hamas has been forthright in recent discussions. The talks, which took place in Doha, Qatar, broke the longstanding US position of not negotiating with terrorists. The US's message to Hamas was that it wants to get hostages home, with the release of American citizen Edan Alexander being a top priority. The discussions were confirmed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, and come as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains in place.
