Preliminary results from a study conducted by scientists at Israel's Haifa University suggest that MDMA, also known as ecstasy or molly, may have provided psychological protection against trauma for survivors of the Nova music festival attack near Gaza's border. The study, which is currently being peer-reviewed, found that the drug is associated with more positive mental states during and after the event. This research could contribute to the growing scientific interest in using MDMA to treat psychological trauma. It is the first time scientists have been able to study a mass trauma event involving individuals under the influence of mind-altering drugs.
