Israel has become a world leader in Zoom weddings performed by the State of Utah, with 5,316 Israeli couples applying. However, data shows that couples are slowly distancing themselves from the rabbinate, opting for alternative marriage options such as Zoom weddings or marrying abroad. Despite the popularity of these alternatives, the divorce process still has to take place under the rabbinate's laws. The government is seeking to extend the authority of rabbinical courts, which may harm children's rights and exacerbate inequality. An alternative option is the institution of 'common law marriage' which allows couples to start a family without the religious court's involvement.
