Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested and taken to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Netherlands, becoming the first former Asian leader to be arrested by the court. The ICC handles cases of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression. It relies on the cooperation of states to arrest suspects, as it does not have its own police force. The court has issued 60 arrest warrants and convicted 11 people, including Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga and Ugandan commander Dominic Ongwen. If Duterte is convicted, he would be transferred to a prison in another country.
