A rare mikveh, a Jewish ritual bath, was discovered at Ostia Antica, Italy, providing evidence of a Jewish presence in ancient Roman Ostia. The mikveh is believed to date back to the late fourth or early fifth century CE and is among the oldest examples of mikva'ot found outside of Israel. The discovery also included an ancient synagogue, making it one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. The ongoing excavations at Ostia Antica are expected to uncover more Jewish sites.
