A group of disabled veterans recently conducted an excavation of the Revolutionary War battlefield in Camden, South Carolina. Organized by the American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR), the project aimed to shed light on the Battle of Camden and improve historical understanding of the conflict. The veterans used GPS receivers to collect spatial data and generate a heat map of the battle's movements. AVAR founder Stephen Humphreys emphasized the unique traits that veterans bring to the field and the positive impact of the work on their mental and physical well-being. The excavation was supported by several partner organizations.
