Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may be less likely to suffer accidental injuries compared to children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to a study by researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The study examined injury rates among children with ASD, ADHD, both ASD and ADHD, and typically developing children. Children with ADHD had the highest rates of emergency department visits due to any type of injury. Children with ASD had higher rates of visits due to inhalation and ingestion injuries but lower rates of orthopedic or animal-inflicted injuries. The study highlights the need for tailored injury prevention strategies for each condition.
