University of Wisconsin Axes Chief Diversity Officer, Previously Accused of Plagiarism, for Gross Financial Mismanagement

LaVar Charleston, the former chief diversity officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been removed from his position due to allegations of financial mismanagement. An internal probe found that Charleston engaged in profligate spending, including giving out over $200,000 in bonuses without consultation. He has also been accused of research misconduct and plagiarism in the past. Despite being stripped of his role, Charleston remains employed by the university at a lower salary. The university is currently under investigation by the Trump administration for race-based fellowships and scholarships, as well as for its handling of anti-Semitism.
