Israel has announced that it has killed Hamas' military intelligence chief in southern Gaza, Osama Tabash. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated that Tabash was also the head of the group's surveillance and targeting unit and was responsible for planning and coordinating targets and infiltration objectives. Meanwhile, Israel's defence minister has ordered ground forces to advance deeper into Gaza in an effort to pressure Hamas to release more hostages. The escalation of operations comes after the extension to the ceasefire failed to result in the release of Israeli hostages and substantive negotiations with Hamas. The death toll in Gaza has risen to nearly 600, with many of the victims being children.
