Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker detained by Israeli military after being beaten up, say activists

Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal has been detained by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank after being beaten up by Israeli settlers. The Centre for Jewish Nonviolence reported that Ballal suffered a bleeding head in the assault and was detained while being treated in an ambulance. The incident occurred when dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Susya and destroyed property. Ballal is one of the co-directors of the documentary 'No Other Land', which won the best documentary Oscar this year.
