Channel 4 is 'deeply disturbed' by reports that Palestinian director Hamdan Ballal, whose documentary aired on the broadcaster, has been attacked by Israeli settlers and detained. Ballal is one of four filmmakers who directed No Other Land, which won the Oscar for best documentary feature film. The Israeli military has detained Ballal and two other Palestinians, while witnesses dispute the military's claim that they were involved in a 'violent confrontation'. Channel 4 has urged Israeli authorities to ensure Ballal's safety and Equity, the performing arts and entertainment trade union, has called upon the UK Foreign Office to press for his immediate and safe release.
