A federal judge in Massachusetts has temporarily halted the deportation of a Turkish doctoral student at Tufts University who was detained by U.S. immigration officials. The student, Rumeysa Ozturk, was taken into custody and had her visa revoked after voicing support for Palestinians in Israel's war in Gaza. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security accused Ozturk of engaging in activities in support of Hamas. The American Civil Liberties Union has joined her legal defense team, arguing that her detention violates her rights to free speech and due process.
