Researchers from the University of Jaén have discovered the first known stone mold for making coins in Roman Hispania at the ancient settlement of Obulco. The mold provides insights into the technical aspects of coin production and confirms the use of local resources in tool-making during antiquity. The discovery fills a gap in archaeological knowledge about Iberian mints and highlights the importance of coinage in the Romanization of the Iberian Peninsula.
