Elon Musk's cost-cutting team is finalizing the dismantlement of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), ordering the firings of thousands of local workers and American diplomats and civil servants assigned to the agency overseas, according to former officials and sources. Almost all of USAID's own employees are being fired by September, its overseas offices are being shut, and some functions will be absorbed into the State Department. This move effectively eliminates what is left of the agency's workforce. President Donald Trump and Musk began the process of shuttering USAID in February to align with Trump's 'America First' policies.
