Florida state Sen. Randy Fine won a special election for a vacant congressional seat that was previously held by Mike Waltz. Fine, a Trump-backed Republican, faced pressure from his party after being outraised by Democrat Josh Weil. Fine is known for his socially conservative stances and combative approach to politics, as well as his support for Israel. Despite initially being an ally of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Fine publicly turned on him to endorse Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. Fine's bid for the conservative district became more challenging when national Democrats began investing in Weil's campaign.
