Joelle Pineau, Vice President of Artificial Intelligence Research at Meta Platforms, announced her departure after nearly eight years. Pineau expressed the need to create space for others to pursue the work as Meta prepares for its next chapter. Her departure coincided with Meta's increased investment in AI infrastructure and plans to spend up to $65 billion in 2025. Pineau joined Meta in 2017 and oversaw the company's Fundamental AI Research lab, leading a team of nearly 1,000 researchers.
