Phase two of the Gaza hostage deal, which was supposed to include the release of all remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, seems to have withered away and died. There have been no negotiations over phase two, and alternative plans have failed. As a result, Israel has returned to a military offensive against Hamas in Gaza, which may not be efficient in securing the release of more hostages. The question now is whether it is better to save as many hostages as possible and agree to the terms of phase two, or attempt to strong-arm Hamas into concessions.
