Heavy rains in Hyderabad caused a chunk of mortar to fall from the north-east minaret of the 16th-century Charminar monument. Officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) are assessing the damage and have stated that the minaret is not under threat. This is not the first time that parts of the Charminar have fallen due to natural wear and tear. The ASI is expected to recommend a strategy for repairs.
