The situation in Gaza continues to be near-catastrophic, with more than 50,000 dead. Israel has resumed military operations in the Strip since March 18, breaking a phase-I ceasefire. Netanyahu now feels he has a blank cheque from Washington to do as he pleases in Gaza. Hamas isn't blameless either, as it would have known that its attack on Israel would have elicited a massive response against ordinary Palestinians in Gaza.
