Calls for 'irresponsible' UK government to follow Canada's lead on rules for young drivers

The UK government is facing criticism for not introducing tougher licensing laws for new drivers. Calls for the government to follow Canada's lead on implementing Graduated Driving Licences (GDLs) have been growing, as evidence shows that deaths among young drivers have significantly decreased in countries that have implemented GDLs. Despite this evidence, the UK government claims that GDLs unfairly penalize young drivers and is not considering introducing them. Road safety organizations, bereaved families, and MPs have spoken in favor of GDLs, and a campaign group has delivered a petition with over 100,000 signatures to Downing Street. The UK government says it is exploring other options to address the high number of accidents involving young drivers without penalizing them.
