Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has announced that he will have indirect talks with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff in Oman to address Tehran's advancing nuclear program. The talks are the first negotiations under the Trump administration and come after years of failed indirect talks under the Biden administration. Araghchi stated that the main goal of the talks is to restore the rights of the Iranian people and lift sanctions. The negotiations have the potential to eventually lead to direct talks between Iran and the U.S.
