The Torah commands us to destroy all chametz (leaven) found in our homes during Passover, symbolizing the removal of foreign influences and constraints that prevent us from realizing our spiritual aspirations. True freedom requires both physical and spiritual independence. Just as the Israelites needed to free themselves from Egyptian bondage and idolatrous culture, we must purge impure influences from our national spirit. Freedom is the fulfillment of our inner essence and the highest form of freedom is being in service to God.
