Former Putin-appointed Crimea governor, Dmitrii Ovsiannikov, has been jailed for 40 months in the UK after being found guilty of breaching British sanctions. Ovsiannikov, who was appointed governor of Sevastopol in 2016, was convicted of six counts of circumventing sanctions and two counts of possessing or using criminal property. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a seventh charge. Ovsiannikov had applied to have his EU sanctions lifted and moved to London after losing his job in Russia. He was accused of having his wife pay money into his account to buy a Mercedes-Benz SUV.
