Harriet Cohen, a Jewish pianist, and Arnold Bax, an English classical music composer, had a passionate and sad love affair that lasted over 40 years. Despite Bax being married, their relationship was fueled by their shared love of music and their intense emotions. Cohen was a well-known pianist who championed the works of various composers, including Bax, Elgar, and Vaughan Williams. She also had close relationships with figures such as Albert Einstein and Ramsay MacDonald. Cohen was a fervent Zionist and used her platform to advocate for Jewish refugees during the rise of Nazi Germany. After Bax's death, Cohen continued to perform and was honored for her contributions to music. She died in 1967 at the age of 71.
