Crossbenchers are calling for a significant increase in Australia's foreign aid budget to meet international benchmarks. The coalition, which previously cut foreign aid, has been non-committal on the issue. The current budget is well below Labor's goal of 0.5% of gross national income. Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi stated that the Greens would support a second term for Anthony Albanese and require increased aid spending in a minority parliament scenario. Other crossbenchers also expressed support for increasing foreign aid, citing moral and security obligations.
